WEEKLY REHEARSALS

Weekly Sunday rehearsals are held inside the Multi-purpose Room at Santa Rita Elementary School, 700 Los Altos Ave., Los Altos, CA 94022, unless otherwise indicated. Please arrive 15 minutes early to get your instrument out and tuned. We also need the help of several parents and students in the IS-AM session to help set up the rehearsal room. Occasionally, we will also need the assistance of parents and students in the IS-PM session to clean the rehearsal room. Please refer to the newsletters and this site throughout the season for further details.

REHEARSALS ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE CONCERT

Attendance at rehearsal one week prior to the concert is mandatory. Students are not required to wear concert dress for these rehearsals.

CONCERT DAY DRESS REHEARSALS

The rehearsals are an opportunity for the students to become familiar with the acoustics and conquer nerves associated with playing on stage before the actual performance. These rehearsals are crucial for the students to feel comfortable on stage and thus give their best performance at the concert. Students are advised to wear concert dress for these rehearsals. Attendance at dress rehearsals is mandatory.

CONCERT ATTIRE

Option A:  Wear white button-down shirt with black pants (no shorts).

Option B:  Wear all black. Long sleeve black shirt, or blouse. Ankle length black skirt or pants (no shorts).

Note for all: Black shoes (no tennis shoes), black socks/stockings/tights. No shiny or sparkling jewelry, hair ornaments, belts, or other accessories. Back, shoulders, and midriffs must remain completely covered in all postures.

WORKSHOPS

We will hold two (2) required workshops that will provide training in ensemble performance and practice. Times and locations are the same. The workshops consist of sectionals directed by professional musicians.

VIOLA IMMERSION WORKSHOPS

Every Fall, Ms. Kati Kyme offers Viola Immersion classes for violinists who want to take advantage of learning the viola. The two sessions of Viola Immersion class are free to any interested musicians. Interested players would need only to rent a viola by that time and bring it to class: Ms. Kyme will provide instruction and music. It is highly recommended for interested students to attend both workshop days. An online sign-up sheet will posted for this workshop.

Note: These workshops must have a minimum enrollment of five (5) students per workshop day to continue or workshops may be canceled.

What to bring to rehearsals & workshops:

  1. Your music. CYS will charge $25 to replace lost music.
  2. A music stand
  3. A pencil (always have this ready)
  4. Mutes, tuners, extra strings, etc.
  5. Yellow ID barcode card

REHEARSAL HALL friendly reminders:

  • Please put your instrument cases to the sides of the room and neatly out of the walkways and not next to your chairs (even if you sit at the very back of the section). Take only what you need to your seat.
  • Please clean-up after yourselves.
  • Let's help keep our rehearsal room clean by picking up little items off the floor (i.e. napkins, pencils, water bottles, etc), even if the item does not belong to you.
  • Eat your snacks, sip your drinks outside the rehearsal room and, please, do not make a mess outside.
