OUTREACH EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS

CYS produces outreach events for musicians in our program as well as for the greater community. These events are designed for young musicians who play orchestral and wind ensemble instruments who may be interested in joining CYS, for students wanting to start an instrument, or for those who may be thinking about switching from one instrument to another.

Additionally, our artistic directors offer free in-school visits to work with students, teachers, and their ensembles. Interested in having one of our artistic directors to work with your students? UPCOMING EVENTS

FREE VIOLA AND DOUBLE BASS WORKSHOPS | January 25, 2025

Calling all interested student musicians! CYS is offering Free Viola and Double Bass Workshops to help musicians make the transition to either of these instruments or to any elementary, middle, and high school students interested in trying out and learning more about viola or bass. Our session will start with an introduction to the instrument, followed by clef reading, intonation, and robust tone production. Participants simply need to register with CYS and rent a viola or bass from one of the reputable string shops in our area (see list below).

CYS BRASS DAY (FREE!) | February 8, 2025 | La Entrada Middle School, Menlo Park, CA | 1pm-4pm

Attention Brass Students (Current CYS Musicians and aspiring players!) CYS is presenting FREE Brass Day on Sunday, February 8th, 2025 from 1-4pm at La Entrada Middle School in Menlo Park. Activities for the day will include clinics, fundamentals, audition preparation, and brass ensemble performances, all led by our Winds Artistic Directors, Pete Nowlen (CYS Wind Symphony Director and Director of the Concert Band, UC Davis) and Anthony Lanzino (CYS Wind Ensemble and Chamber Winds Director and Director of Instrumental Music, La Entrada Middle School), along with our Music Director, Leo Eylar. We will also welcome special guest trumpet clinician, David Burkhart (Trumpet Faculty, San Francisco Conservatory of Music).
