Jeston Lu
Young Artist Competition Winner
Jeston Lu, 16, is a junior at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, CA. He studies piano with Professor Hans Boepple. He is the California state winner and the Southwest Division alternate at the 2022 MTNA Senior Piano Competition. In addition to his induction to the MTAC Young Artist Guild, he received first place at the 2022 MTAC California North Region Concerto Competition and second place at the CAPMT Concerto State Finals. Competing locally, nationally and internationally, he was awarded with Honorable Mention at the 2022 National YoungArts Competition. In 2021, he won the Ross McKee Piano Competition, the Celia Mendez Young Pianists Beethoven Competition and Pacific Musical Society Competition. He was the Gold Medalist at the 2021 Canadian International Music Competition. He also won other top awards and scholarships including the Kaufman Music Center International Youth Piano Competition, Seattle International Bach Festival, the Chopin San Francisco Piano Competition, the Marilyn Mindell Piano Competition, Sylvia M. Ghiglieri Piano Competition, United States International Music Competition, etc.
He is an active pianist in his school’s Conservatory of the Arts. Selected as the Conservatory Honors Fellow, he helps promote and share the joy of music to students and the public through school events. He fosters his love of music collaboration through participation in his school’s Chamber Ensemble and is the founder and the co-president of the Love Through Music Club. Besides piano, he enjoys playing violin and was one of the violinists in a local church orchestra. In previous summers, he participated in the Indiana University Summer Piano Academy, Music at the Mission’s ChamberFest and C’est Bon Chamber Music Camp. He will join the Young Artists Piano Program at Boston University’s Tanglewood Institute this summer. He enjoys sharing music with elderly at senior centers and teaching young kids music. Besides, he loves composing, writing, playing tennis, and hiking.
