Jenna Kang
Graduating Senior Concerto Competition Winner
Jenna Kang, age 18, began violin at the age of 5 and is currently studying under Zhao Wei. She was chosen as a violinist in Carnegie Hall's 2022 and 2023 National Youth Orchestra of the United States (NYO-USA), where she toured Europe and the United States on a coast-to-coast tour as the Assistant-Concertmaster. She was also a prize winner at the National YoungArts Competition in 2022 and 2023. Additionally, she was a National Finalist of NPR’s From The Top podcast and will be performing and interviewed on an upcoming podcast as a Learning and Media Lab Fellow. She also served as the Concertmaster of the California Youth Symphony Associate Orchestra, 2nd Violin Principal of the Senior Orchestra, Assistant-Concertmaster, and is currently the Co-Concertmaster of the California Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra. She went on a Europe tour in 2022. She was also a Winner of the 2023 California Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra Solo Competition. Additionally, she was the Co-Concertmaster of the 2022 California All-State High School Symphony Orchestra. She was also invited to Music at Meadowmount in 2023 and attended the NYU Strings Intensive summer program in 2020. Jenna has also been studying string quartet and piano trio music as a member of the Young Chamber Musicians program (YCM). Jenna also participates in volunteer activities through music such as the HOP3BOX Benefit Orchestra and AMASE where she teaches music to neurodiverse students. She has also created a student-led non-profit organization, Project Poema, that provides performance opportunities to musicians and donates to charity organizations through sponsorships. Outside of music, Jenna loves reading, horseback riding, and rock climbing.
