CYS Is thrilled to present TWO holiday concerts on December 5th, with all seven of our ensembles taking the stage throughout the day! There is something for everyone in these rich and varied festive events! If you are unable to attend in person, please click above to view the livestream of each concert.
Our yearly Holiday Concert is a wonderful opportunity to hear the Associate Orchestra and the Senior Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Eylar, and the CYS Wind Symphony, under the direction of Pete Nowlen. Maestro Nowlen has chosen a wonderfully eclectic program featuring the Canton Folk Song Suite by Jack Loh, Summerland, composed by William Grant Still, and the exquisite Polar Express Concert Suite by noted film composer Alan Silvestri. The Associate Orchestra will perform Strauss' Die Fledermaus Overture as well as Tchaikovsky’s Marche Slave. The orchestra will also feature music from John Williams’ The Lost World: Jurassic Park. We are delighted to welcome two soloists to join the Senior Orchestra: bassoonist Sonny Young will be featured in Rossini’s rarely performed Concerto for Bassoon and Orchestra, and Senior Orchestra violinist David Wang will play the tour de force final movement from Max Bruch’s ever-popular Violin Concerto no. 1. As always, the Senior Orchestra will get you in the Holiday spirit with its selection of holiday favorites such as White Christmas, Deck the Halls, Joy to the World, and selections from the perennial favorite, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker.
Later in the day, at 6pm, CYS will continue to ring in the holiday season with performances by the String and Wind Ensembles under the batons of Kati Kyme and Rosita Amador. Enjoy the talents of these young musicians-in-training and advanced members, between the ages of 5-18, as they perform classical and film works by Haydn, Mozart, Brahms, Gabrielli, and more.
