Krishan Kumar is the principal flutist of the California Youth Symphony and the Harker School Orchestra. He first picked up the flute at the age of seven and began his musical studies with John Huang, former principal flutist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Krishan played in his elementary and junior high school bands since he was in third grade, but he first gained exposure to orchestral music as a freshman at the Harker School. His love for this music further augmented when he began studying under Maria Tamburrino, principal flutist of Symphony Silicon Valley, who has been his teacher for his entire high school career.
Avner Kreps started playing the trombone at age ten after having started on piano at age six. He has since been taught privately by Phil Zahorsky, Don Couch, and McDowell Kenley, as well as Austin Chung on piano. In the past, he has been selected as a member of the California All-State Honor Band, and has participated in the Summer Brass Institute and Festival at Menlo, where he received private instruction from Tim Higgins, Michael Mulcahy, and Paul Welcomer, among others.
Violinist Isabella Costanza, 18, began her violin studies at age four in Chicago. She is a senior at Henry M. Gunn High School in Palo Alto, California, and she studies violin with Robin Sharp. Isabella is Co-Concertmaster of the California Youth Symphony, with whom she will be featured as soloist in May, as Winner of the CYS 2014 Graduating Seniors’ Concerto Competition. Isabella was also a member of the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra (PACO) for five years.
