The award-winning California Youth Symphony, under the direction of Maestro Leo Eylar, continues its 56th season with a program of music that offers a sonic comparison among nationalistic schools of composition in England, Russia, and the United States on Sunday, May 11 at 2:30 p.m. at the Flint Center in Cupertino and Sunday, May 18 at 2:30 p.m. at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center. The program includes William Schumann’s setting of Charles Ives’ Variations on “America,” Benjamin Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, and Prokofiev’s Suite from “The Love for Three Oranges,” as well as performances of the Gordeli Concertino for Flute and Orchestra, Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2, and Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante for Cello and Orchestra by CYS Senior Soloist Competition winners
